2. Be actively involved in planning and implementing the camp's future history and welcome center.

This goal was met as camp opened for the 2009 summer season.

The Tomahawk Alumni Association took an active role with the center.  Former TAA president Jim Frost was project manager for the history exhibit and the association’s board was regularly updated as plans were implemented.  Many members participated by checking copy, providing pictures and stories, and helping to get the exhibit in place.

Building dedication is scheduled for July 19, 2009.

The history exhibit is now in place at the new Berglund Welcome Center at Tomahawk Scout Reservation.

It consists of 10 semi-portable walls connected by a pathway that portray the camp’s story on display panels with copy and illustrations.  They start with the formation of Long Lake during the Ice Age and use of the lake by Native Americans, loggers and tourists.  They continue through land acquisition for the camp, initial construction, aquatics, Scout crafts, field sports, program enhancements, special activities, food service and a look toward the future.

The memorabilia display case formerly situated in the Central Services Building is now part of the history exhibit as is a replica of the original entrance sign.  There are computers where Scouts can write their own stories as well as panels featuring professional and summer staff persons.
