We had a fantastic service weekend at Tomahawk! Many thanks to the TSR alumni, current camp staff members, and friends of Tomahawk who volunteered their time and talent this past weekend. A special thanks goes out to TAA board members Tyler McKean and Greg Rohde for promoting this past weekend's event and coordinating projects through the camp ranger staff and properties committee.
I did a quick head count during lunch and counted 45 people present, I know we had more people in and out throughout the weekend. With an average of six hours of work per person we did at least 270 hours worth of service which is fantastic. That's about seven 40 hour work weeks that our ranger staff would have had to fit into their schedule which would simply not happen.
Here's a list of some of the key projects that were accomplished
1) Construction of tent platforms in the new Red Pine campsite in White Pine camp
2) Painted the new Chippewa Scoutcraft building and White Pine hay barn
3) Built new uprights and ridgepoles for campsite equipment which saved the camp well over $1,000 by crafting those ourselves instead of buying finished materials
4) Cleaned and recycled various scrap metal from around the camp which will also bring a financial return to Tomahawk, turning junk into resource for program equipment and building maintenance
5) Cleaned the administration building as Tomahawk will host the Long Lake Preservation Association's annual meeting during Memorial Day weekend
6) Built a planter around campsite signs which better defines the traffic lanes for the new road in camp and beautifies the area
7) Hiking trail maintenance including clearing hazard trees and removing debris
8) Organized the trading post and program supply storage and inventory bays getting prepared for new shipments
